Journyx Timesheet Version 2.0 Establishes New Benchmarks for Easy, Web-Based Time-Tracking
Delivers support for NT, stronger password security, and ODBC capability
AUSTIN, Texas, USA — July 13, 1998 — Journyx, the worldwide leader in web-based time & project tracking solutions, today announced industry-leading functionality and flexibility in its release of Journyx Time 2.0, available immediately. Journyx Timesheet 2.0 provides a number of enhancements, including NT support, which extend its lead over other time-tracking products in the marketplace.
Key new features available in Journyx Timesheet 2.0 include:
NT support
Though Journyx Timesheet users have always
been able to log and track their time using any commonly available web browser,
the time data itself was stored on a Unix server. Now, with the added NT
support, administrators will have an even broader choice of server platforms on
which to run Journyx Timesheet.
Several new GUI choices
Journyx has added two news screen options for data
entry, allowing managers to much more easily configure the input format to the
needs of particular user groups.
A greatly enhanced security solution
Journyx Timesheet 2.0 now ships with a
browser-independent, server independent password module, that includes several
key checks on such items as password aging, password reuse, and password
strength.
New product pricing bundles
Journyx has adopted a new pricing model which
allows smaller customers, for the first time, to deploy a robust,
fully-featured, enterprise-strength time tracking solution for under $1000.
Five user licenses are now included with each Journyx Timesheet server purchase,
and the Journyx Timesheet server price has been reduced to $999.
The ability to have Journyx Timesheet install into an
existing database via ODBC
Responding to customer requests, Journyx has made
migration to Time easier, allowing customers to capitalize on existing software
infrastructure investments.
"We see Journyx Timesheet 2.0 as a strong move forward with the product, which was already better than anything else we could find on the market" stated Steve Madere, chief technical officer of Dejanews, Inc., "Once we did our homework, for us the clear answer was Journyx Timesheet, and with this new release they have once again confirmed we made the right decision.".
Journyx Timesheet 2.0 also includes a host of smaller yet still noteworthy improvements along the lines of increased speed, stronger reporting capabilities, and the ability to better manage users by assigning them to groups. The Journyx Timesheet product retains the features that have made it the primary web-based time tracking solution deployed by Fortune 500 companies and technical organizations. These standard features include year 2000 compliance, a 15-minute installation and configuration, strong reporting capabilities, and ease-of-use for the end-user. Users can, as before, use any web browser, including text-mode browsers, to enter their time data, allowing for convenient and easy time entry whether on the corporate intranet, or from the other side of the world.
"Bottom line, accurate, and timely updates on the status of projects improves communication and decision-making throughout the organization.," noted Herb Krasner, of Krasner Consulting, a productivity improvement consulting organization. "If they aren’t already, all knowledge workers in an organization should be tracking their time."
Time Requirements
The client system for Timesheet 2.0 requires access to an Internet or intranet
browser, including Netscape, Microsoft, Mosaic, and Lynx. Time itself has no
client-side footprint, thus greatly reducing the administrative burden for
installations and upgrades.
The server system for Timesheet 2.0 requires either Microsoft NT Server 4.0 with Service Pack 3 with TCP/IP Networking and administrative rights to the local domain or a Unix server running AIX, Solaris, Linux, or FreeBSD. The server system requires 32 MB RAM and 10 MB hard disk space. Journyx Timesheet employs Apachetm as its default web server, and a copy is included in the installation package, but Time can also work with other web servers, such as the Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) or the Netscape Web Server.
Pricing and Availability
Timesheet 2.0 is priced at $999 for the server (includes 5 named users) and
additional users for $29 apiece; volume discount pricing available upon
request. Time is available immediately, and can be obtained directly from
Journyx, and from select overseas channel partners.
