Freetimesheet.com Service Launched by Journyx, Powered by IBM & Linux
Free Internet service enables small businesses and workgroups to outsource timesheets, project tracking, & expense management via the Web
AUSTIN, Texas, USA — August 3, 1999 — Journyx, the marketshare leader in web-based timesheet and project tracking solutions for the enterprise, announces the release of FREETIMESHEET.COM, the world's first free integrated timesheet and expense report solutions portal. Freetimesheet.com allows companies around the world to replace their outmoded paper timesheets and expense reports by signing up for permanently free accounts on a Journyx-maintained internet server.
Roughly 8 million workers in the United States alone have to fill out some kind of timesheet or timecard on a regular, often daily, basis, and this number is growing rapidly as trends such as outsourcing, telecommuting, and a broad shift toward project-oriented work take hold. Timesheet data is typically mission critical, as it is used to 1) get people paid for the work they did; 2) generate bills and invoices; and 3) better manage projects and milestones. Travel & expense management, though typically not as pressing, is also important, as up to 20 million workers in the United States file at least one expense report per year.
A significant and increasing percentage of organizations tracking employee time & expense are smaller firms that don't have adequate resources to purchase, install, and maintain software to automate these key data collection efforts. Freetimesheet.com relieves companies of these hassles, allowing them to focus on making profits. "Time IS money," says Journyx Marketing Vice President Bill Leake, "and Freetimesheet.com is all about saving money and improving productivity for workgroups and smaller companies at all levels. Powered by our marketshare-leading Journyx Timesheet technology, Freetimesheet.com is for the employee who has to enter time, for the manager who relies on accurate and timely data, and for the corporate entity looking to improve cash flow."
The Freetimesheet.com service in many respects does for timesheet & expense management what the free calendar services provided by Yahoo, America Online and Microsoft have done for individual, web-based dayplanning. "Journyx elevates the whole concept of free web services to a completely new level, however, by providing value geared toward the needs of companies, not just individuals. The Freetimesheet.com portal includes the management, approval, and workflow features needed to manage employee timesheets and expense reporting," according to Leake.
Freetimesheet.com makes accurate time keeping & expense reporting fast and simple for workgroups and smaller firms. Using an intuitive browser interface, employees fill out timesheets and expense forms. Managers, also using a browser, can view and approve the time of employees in their workgroup. At any point in the process, managers can generate their own easily exportable and printable reports on time and cost incurred by project by employee, or can simply use one of the 20 standard reports available at the Freetimesheet.com portal site.
Curt Finch, president and CEO of Journyx said, "People are typically a company's single largest expense, and travel expenses are the third largest controllable expense. Now, professional services firms can get paid faster, project-oriented organizations can manage better, and literally hundreds of thousands of companies can take cost reduction to another level by using our free service."
How Freetimesheet.com Works to Liberate Your Time
Customers of the timesheet system require
only internet access and a browser, preferably either Netscape Navigator or
Microsoft Internet Explorer. No client-side software installation is necessary.
Freetimesheet.com automates the entire time & expense management process,
from the creation and submission of timesheets & expense reports to
routing, approvals, and policy management.
Users access the Freetimesheet.com service over a secure Internet connection and interact with the software on a server hosted by Jump.net, best known for hosting the websites of e-commerce pioneers including Garden.com, Vignette Corporation, and Works.com. Jump.net is Texas' original DSL provider, and is the only ISP in the nation to offer a 100% reliability guarantee across all service areas.
"The Journyx Timesheet technology powering Freetimesheet.com represents a new class of enterprise application that is designed from the ground up to run over the Internet," said Kenneth Smith, Jump.net President and CTO. "As the leading business-focused ISP in Texas, Jump.net wants to partner with solutions like this because we believe they leverage the full potential of the Internet."
Also powering the Freetimsheet.com offering is an IBM Webspheretm application server and the enterprise edition of the market-leading IBM DB2 tm database. "We chose to integrate offerings from our partner IBM because these same technologies power the majority of the world's most highly-trafficked websites, so we know they will scale to meet our expected demand," said John Maddalozzo, Journyx VP of Development. "We are also launching the service using the Linux platform, as we are impressed with its speed and reliability."
