How can I automate leave requests and scheduled time off?
Timesheet version 7.0 includes a new feature for automating employee leave requests and time off coordination. Via the Toolbar shortcut or the Management tab, employees can create requests for time off for future dates and notify managers for review. If a request isn't declined by a supervisor, the time will be loaded into the employee's timesheet when the employee views the associated period.
Managers can view all time off requests for employees in their groups via the Leave Request Calendar under the Management tab. The calendar provides daily, weekly and monthly views of scheduled time off and allows managers to review details of individual requests and decline them if necessary.
Requiring notification of a manager when new requests are created is an optional setting that can be configured under Configuration -> System Settings -> Leave Requests. In this same area there is also an option to require that a reason be provided when a supervisor declines a request. When either of these settings is enabled, an email notification is sent as part of the process. The address(es) to which an email notification is sent when a new request notification is required is determined by the manager the employee chooses from a dropdown list of qualified managers. The list of qualified managers is compiled by including all Managers and Administrators in the employee's groups who have a configured Email Address field.
How can I view my dropdown selection menus when entering time for a long period (i.e., monthly timesheet)?
For employees with monthly timesheets, it may be difficult to view initial selections from tracking columns in a browser as they scroll to the right to fill out the later dates in a given month. Employees with other types of long time entry periods may have similar problems depending on screen size and resolution. Timesheet version 7.0 includes an option to split the entry screen into two scrolling areas – one area for the tracking columns and one area for the dates. Using this feature it is possible to scroll to later parts of the period without losing site of the selections in the tracking columns. Go to Preferences -> Entry Screens and enable the "Add inner scrollbars to fit wide entry screens into browser if necessary" setting to view what this can do to make your "wide" entry screens easier to use.
