GPUG Summit Day 1: Opening Session

Have you ever been to a session at a conference where the speaker was showing off some nifty new software, features, or new ways of doing certain tasks, and you thought to yourself, “Wow, that’s really cool.” GPUG Summit attendees have a very Music City-appropriate way of expressing that, now.

Those attending the opening session of GPUG Summit in Nashville this morning were all given cowbells, for the purpose of sounding off their approval of features GP 2018 will offer (or anything else they like, for that matter). And they were used to their full extent as GP rockstars like Bob McAdam, Steve Burney, Pam Misialek, Martin Olsen, and more took to the stage.

State of GPUG

GPUG Advisory Board Chairman gave a brief, but impactful, 10,000-foot view of the GPUG community, showing its community footprint in terms of education, community discussions, conference attendance, and chapters – showing how active the tightly-knit GPUG community is.

Making the Most of GP

Pam Misialek, Product Marketing Manager for Microsoft Dynamics SMB, took to the stage to encourage GP users to make the most of their Dynamics GP installs and challenging those who have recently upgraded to turn off autopilot. She asked the question, “Now that you’ve upgraded, what are you going to do now?” and stressed the need to continue learning about ways to work differently and make things better.

The Value of ISVs

This was a great segue into Martin Olsen of eOne Solutions, who told the story of how GP and the relationship with ISVs was created and evolved over time (in only the way he can – with a biblical-style, “In the beginning…” story). The major lesson from his humerous, but important, story was that ISVs were created to make GP better and make the user’s job easier (like. for instance, time tracking for projects…but that’s a different story).

GP Roadmap and New in GP 2018

A plethora of new features for GP 2018 were introduced by speakers from Microsoft and MVPs, such as:

  • Document Attach – the ability to attach documents to master records. This will be available in several GP modules, including Payroll, General Ledger, Purchasing, and Project Accounting.l
  • The ability to email customer statements.
  • Display Hold Status in a Sales Transaction Entry.
  • New fields in vendor workflow for setting up EFT payments, purchase requisitions, and purchase order approvals.
  • New workflows for GL account approval and purchasing.
  • The ability to copy workflow steps and sub steps.
  • The ability to set up email reminders for people assigned a step in a workflow.
  • Workflow history reports by user, type, date, manager, and due date.
  • New features in Smartlists, with the ability to leverage SQL to create views and export to Excel.

In addition, as has been revealed at many previous GP, the GP product roadmap was on display:
