Try the Journyx Signature Cocktail, The Triple T!
I know, I know. We’re a time tracking software company, not a bar. But after a recent cocktail mixology event we held for our staff to come up with a Journyx signature cocktail, maybe we should open a bar…
OK, maybe not. But we came up with one heck of a signature cocktail. Ladies and gentleman, meet The Triple T!
Now, you may be asking two questions. Firstly, what does Triple T mean? Quite simply, it stands for “Texas Time Tracker” – because Journyx is all about time tracking, and we’re in Texas, y’all.
Secondly, how did we come up with this tempting concoction?
Perhaps unwisely, but quite enthusiastically, a willing subset of the Journyx team set out to compete in cocktail making – the aforementioned mixology event. Their mission: to devise, concoct, shake, decant, and otherwise sling new cocktails into existence. This “Coalition of the Swilling” took up their bar tools to come up with what would become the Journyx 20th Anniversary Signature Cocktail.
Three teams competed in three separate rounds to create cocktails inspired by three “barfly personas”: the Southern Belle, the New York Investment Banker, and the West Coast Hipster. The winning cocktails from each of the three rounds were then judged for the top honor.
The winning cocktail, originally dubbed The Memphis Belle, is a refreshing cross between a mint julep and a cosmopolitan. The name was then changed to The Triple T. One sip of this drink, and you’re sure to lose track of time!
The Triple T will be making appearances at various events around the US, including the GPUG Summit in October. However, we’re giving you the recipe so you can try it out for yourself!
The Triple T (aka “The Texas Time Tracker”)
2.5 oz Kentucky straight Bourbon
1 oz cranberry juice
½ oz Grenadine
1 oz simple syrup
4 drops Angostura bitters
Juice of ½ lime
Fresh mint sprigs
Muddle a few mint leaves in the bottom of a shaker. Add the remaining ingredients to the shaker, fill with ice, and shake brutally (with the lid on firmly) until the shaker is bitterly cold to the touch. Strain into a (chilled!) martini glass and garnish with a pretty mint sprig.
Okay, let’s get this “straight” about the Bourbon. Use only “straight” Bourbon, which means it is not a blend. Blending is for cheaters, and besides…it’s perfectly legal to adulterate blended Bourbons with such toxins as caramel coloring. No, we say. Only straight Bourbon shall pass our lips, and our livers will thank us for not adding to their burden.
As for Grenadine, the garish commercial syrup that commonly passes for Grenadine is to be shunned entirely. Seek out instead a proper Grenadine, one that is actually made from pomegranates. Unless, of course, you really dig ingredients like high fructose corn syrup, sodium benzoate (preservative), red 40, natural and artificial flavors, and blue number 1.
Bitters make the mixological world go ’round. They are the spice of cocktail life, enhancing and balancing the flavors of the drink. To eschew bitters while mixing is like omitting salt from your cooking — the result is often boring and bland. So get ’em, use ’em, and love ’em. Having said that, make sure not to overdo it on the bitters with The Triple T, lest you prefer it to taste like cough syrup. So err on the conservative side with your drops of bitters.
