Novar, a Honeywell company, is the global leader in multi-site energy management. Novar Professional Services offers a broad range of services to support energy management efforts and help customers get the most from their equipment investment. 

Novar Professional Services determined that they were in need of a time tracking solution. Specifically, Novar PS needed to understand profitability on a more granular level, and to gain knowledge of exactly where employees spent their time across all departments. Novar PS only tracked time for employee payroll purposes. However, they realized that the true value lied in understanding how many hours employees worked on each customer account.

Solution

Due to another division’s success with Journyx Timesheet, Novar PS determined it was the right fit for their department, too.

Russ Wurst, Manager of Energy Engineering at Novar PS, says his division uses Journyx Timesheet to track time for projects and to determine where their labor is going – not only for billable customer accounts but for sales, as well.

“We use the data we obtain from Journyx Timesheet in two primary ways,” said Wurst. “First, we use it for the business function of determining profitability. The data shows us which accounts are profitable and which ones should be charged more based on the level of effort they require. Second, we use the data at a manager level, reviewing the input effort compared to output.”

Wurst pulls raw data monthly and sends it to the Finance department. Finance then uses the data to examine account profitability and sales labor, which they view at a per-person level. Additionally, Wurst uses Journyx data to pull Billable Utilization and Productive Utilization reports and shares the reports with other internal departments that need the information.
